As the country celebrates Human Rights Day, the Lekhobo and Mereekae families grieve the premature death of their 14-year-old daughter.
The body of Sedika LekhoboGrade, a grade 9 learner at Vryburg Secondary School in Vryburg, was found at the Vryburg Cemetery on Sunday morning, 20 March 2022.
The family last saw Sedika (Mereekae) alive when she left home in the afternoon of Saturday, 19 March 2022.
The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.
“On behalf of the department l would like to convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families of our learner who attended school at Vryburg Secondary School.
“The pandemic of Gender Based Violence against Women and children is still rife amongst our communities. We wish police can find those behind this horrible death of this learner,”Matsemela.
The reason for her death is still under investigation by the local police.
