A 19-year-old foreign national male suspect was arrested in connection with murder and attempted murder at Dinga village on Saturday 27 July 2024.
He is expected to appear at Malamulele Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to the report, the victim, his friend, and the suspect were at the local tuckshop awaiting their order. The victim’s friend and suspect had a heated argument that turned physical.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the friend with a knife on the upper body. The victim tried to intervene, and he was stabbed on the upper body as well. The suspect then fled the scene afterwards.
Both victim and friend were transported to the nearest hospital; upon arrival, the friend succumbed to his injuries.
“Community mobilized and traced the suspect, cornered him, and brutally assaulted him, until he was rescued by the police, and he was taken to the hospital and on police guard.
“The police opened a murder and attempted murder case,” said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The deceased was identified as Hlayiso Lucky Miyambo (27) residing at Dingamazi village.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident. She has however hailed the suspect”s arrest.
“We are delighted with the breakthrough in this case. We surely trust that justice will be served for the victim that was brutally murdered,” she said.
Police investigations are still continuing.
