45-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO WAS SELLING NYAOPE TO SCHOOL KIDS, WAS FOUND WITH DRUGS WORTH R5 MILLION

Police in Limpopo have apprehended a 45-year-old suspect following a significant drug bust that took place on Wednesday afternoon, 10 July 2024 at Maralaleng village in Lebowakgomo policing area outside Polokwane.

In a well-coordinated operation, members of the Provincial Flying Squad
acting on a tip-off cornered the suspect near a major fast food outlet at the shopping center in Lebowakgomo.

The suspect was tactically approached while sitting inside his Toyota Hilux bakkie and was searched. He was found in possession of 03 sachets of crystal meth. The officers continued to search his vehicle, and they discovered 300 sachets of heroine (nyaope) and 80 sachets of cocaine drugs hidden at various places.

The vigilant officers continued with the investigation and conducted a raid on the suspect’s property in Maralaleng village. They discovered a substantial quantity of similar drugs and over R30,000-00 in cash believed to be proceeds from the drugs.The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R5 million.

Thorough investigation continued, and an illegal firearm with three live ammunition was recovered.The vehicle was also confiscated as part of the investigation.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was selling drugs to even school children across various schools. Furthermore, he has a similar pending case before Mankweng Regional Court.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers involved in the operation for the meticulous investigation and swift action.

“This successful operation underscores our ongoing commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in our communities and protecting our children from these ruthless criminals.

“We also appreciate the continued support of the community. This should send a stern warning to drug traffickers out there that we are coming for them,” said Hadebe.

The suspect will appear before Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 12 July 2024, facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition

“Police urge anyone with information related to drug trafficking activities to come forward and assist in the fight against this pervasive issue. Tip-offs can be reported anonymously via the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or by using the MySAPS app,” Ledwaba added.
