A 66-year-old pensioner is expected to make his first appearance before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court today , 19 July 2024, facing a rape charge which he allegedly committed against his granddaughter multiple times.
The now 16-year-old victim told police that between 2021 and 2024, her 66-year- old grandfather has been raping her since 2021 when she was still 13 years old and in grade six. She said all the incidents happened when her grandmother was not at home.
On the first incident, he summoned her to his bedroom to bring him water, only for the then 63-year-old grandfather to lock the door behind her and undressed her as well as himself then proceeded to rape her.
When the ordeal was done, he allegedly threatened her not to tell anyone about what had happened or else he would beat her or hire a hit man to kill her.
The victim said she broke the news to her grandmother and she did not believe her and called her a liar. This ordeal continued to happen in 2022 as well as 2023 where countless rape events took place.
On 13 July 2024, her grandmother was away again when her grandfather started to uncomfortably fondle her. She said she managed to evade his unwarranted actions and ran to the neighbour’s house until Monday, 15 July 2024.
She was assisted by social workers on Wednesday, 17 July 2024 who advised her to approach the police and lay a charge against her grandfather hence his appearance tomorrow.
