A 30-year-old man is expected to before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 July 2023, facing a charge of murder.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the boyfriend was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 28 July 2023, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
Masondo said the police’s thorough investigation led to the arrest of the boyfriend after the body of Mahlaku Malebo Rabalao was found burned inside the car in Midrand.
“On the 7th March 2023 at about 21h00, police received a call about a burning vehicle in Midrand. On their arrival, police found a Mecerdes Benz that was on fire.
“After the fire was extinguished, human remains were found in the front seat of the car.
“Police immediately conducted an investigation, and the deceased was identified. As police always prioritise cases of gender based violence, the docket was transferred to the Provincial Investigation Unit and assigned to a seasoned investigating officer who continued with the investigation,” Masondo said.
Masondo added thag during the investigation, it transpired that the deceased was “killed and burnt inside the vehicle, and the suspect is her boyfriend”.
“A warrant of arrest was issued by the Randburg Magistrate Court. The suspect was traced and arrested in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 28 July 2023.”
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant, General Elias Mawela, welcomed the arrest and applauded the investigation team that worked so hard to bring the suspect to book.
“As the police, we will continue to prioritise cases where women and children are the victims. I am grateful with the manner in which the detectives handled this investigation and that the suspect is brought to book for the family to find closure, “said Mawela.
