The EMDT Recycling Centre is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its innovative facility in Alexandra Township.
This pioneering initiative aims to revolutionize waste management while generating job opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering economic empowerment within the community.
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, EMDT recognized the need to alleviate stress for waste pickers in Alexandra Township. Thus, the EMDT Recycling Centre was established as a sustainable solution to address this concern.
With the aim of providing waste entrepreneurs a much-needed accessible platform to trade their valuable resources, the center offers a convenient and secure space for community members to exchange recyclable materials.
“We understand the ease of accumulating waste but the difficulty is finding an accessible place to trade,” states Mr. S Sigcau, Business Representative of EMDT.
“That’s why we are proud to offer our services to the Alexandra community, providing waste collection free of charge and ensuring fair compensation for the materials brought to us. Our priority is the well-being and success of our community members,” he said.
The EMDT Recycling Centre prides itself on its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and a dedicated staff, the center provides a seamless experience for waste traders.
A multitude of features, including a precise weighing scale, the separation of traded elements, and a strong emphasis on security and staff safety, ensure a smooth and secure trading process.
Ms. L Mbatha, Director of EMDT Recycling Centre, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“I wish everyone involved in this project nothing but the best. May they enjoy this new milestone,” she remarked.
With her resounding support and that of the entire team, the EMDT Recycling Centre is set to transform not only waste management but also the lives of the Alexandra Township residents.
To commemorate the grand opening, a captivating factory tour led by Mr. Graetz showcased the state-of-the-art machinery and explained the intricate processes involved in recycling.
The transparent and licensed facility ensures trust and peace of mind for all stakeholders. Additionally, EMDT Recycling Centre actively promotes environmental education and community engagement, empowering residents to embrace a sustainable mindset for a brighter and greener future.
The EMDT Recycling Centre, located at 24 Dublin Road, Bramleyview, Johannesburg, is now open to the public from Monday to Friday, operating between 08:00 am and 16:00 pm.
The project’s success would not have been possible without the support and participation of esteemed guests, including representatives from local schools, businesses, waste traders, and the wider community.
