Just after 16h00 on Thursday Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a horrific multi- vehicle-collision on the N14 near the Krugersdorp area.
On arrival on scene paramedics were met with absolute carnage as the twisted frames of multiple light and heavy duty vehicles occupied the roadway and embankments.
Scene commanders immediately established an on scene triage area and more resources were called for by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre.
Three people were declared dead on arrival of paramedics.
Three others were found in a critical condition, one of them was airlifted by the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for further definitive care.
Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize multiple patients who were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further care.
It is unclear what caused the collision. However the South African Police Services attended the scene and the roadway will remain closed whilst the necessary investigation is conducted.
