Due to his innocent appearance, Pholosho Kupa may be mistaken for someone new in the acting industry.
But this man is already an experienced actor who appeared in the following movies: Royal Surprise as a photographer, Leaving the Mark as Shane, and Muse Media as Tom.
He acted in Erased as Gadafi, Champions as Thabang Maisa, Ubethina Wethu S2 as Sipho the photographer, Skeem Saam as the delivery guy, MTN Shuga DS3 as Thabo, and The Estate as DJ Jazz.
He also appeared in the following commercials: Investec as Rudzani (lead role) and Outsource (featured footballer).
You can tell that Kupa is slowly but surely on his way to becoming a guru…he is very talented and plays any given role with passion!
He was born and raised in Johannesburg Hillbrow, but his home is in Ga Molepo, Limpopo.
” That’s where my parents’ house is and I go there all the time,” he said.
Kupa started acting professionally in 2021 even though he had been in the acting industry for quite some time. As a background artist, he worked his way up and sharpened his skills by attending acting classes.
His inspiration was derived from the legendary actor Aubrey Mmakola.
“He is the one who first took me in and put me under his wing during the classes.”
Kupa doesn’t have acting qualifications but got lessons on YouTube and being in the background.
For him to be on TV was not like a walk in the park.
“My career as an actor has taught me that there’s no elevator to success, you got to take the stairs. Stay humble and be patient for your time. It took me four years to finally get a role,” says a man who sees his role on Champions growing.
” I want to be the main character on a movie or be a director as I’m also venturing behind the scenes,” he said.
Asked about his favorite role, he said, “Well, it has to be Thabang Maisa on Champions as it’s the person that I dreamt of being when I was growing up.”
For a future role, he said he would not mind playing a role that’s associated gangsterism.
“I wish to be a gangster and maybe a sexual scene. I look up to Morris chestnut internationally and locally it’s Presley Chweneyagae, Aubrey Mmakola and Warren Masemola.”
Kupa revealed that he has enjoyed working with actor Thembinkosi Mthembu.”
“Damn, I wasn’t expecting him to be that modest after everything he has achieved and he sure goes all out when the director calls action
“I sometimes take it personally on what he says while in character.”
He expressed his fondness for sports as well. “I feel like I killed two birds with one stone. I mean living the dream of a soccer player and dream of acting on such a big stage for a big show like this.”
He has this advice on young people: “They must just keep on learning and learning and never give up. Don’t just sit at home and expect roles to come falling on your lap.”
He is Pholosho Kupa on Instagram and Pholo Mjovo on Facebook. “And yea, I’m game to help.”
