The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit in Lebowakgomo intensify their investigation to arrest a male suspect who poured his girlfriend aged 44 with an acid on her face.
He then raped her and then hacked her with a panga, injuring her on the arm, after they had a heated argument.
The incident happened at Thokgoaneng Village in Ga-Chuene in the Lebowakgomo policing area on Friday, June 7, 2024, around 21:30.
According to information, the victim had visited her boyfriend at his residence when the incident occurred. Following the ordeal, the suspect fled the scene. Police were notified, and they opened a case docket of rape and assault GBH.
Manhunt was immediately activated to track down the suspect.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the Lebowakgomo FCS investigating team to work tirelessly until the suspect is arrested.
Hadebe expressed her outrage at the incident due to the ongoing gender-based violence in the province.
She urged community members to help with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect should contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sarah Mokoena on 082 469 1173 or the crime stop number 0860010111 or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp,” she said.
Police investigations continue.
