Police have opened an inquest docket following the gruesome discovery of the body of an infant found allegedly without the upper body in Letlhakaneng village, Northwest Province.
Captain Nomazwi Nkombisa said the woman apparently gave birth while on her way to the doctor.
The woman left the baby under the tree while she went to inform her boyfriend about the incident.
When she returned, she was extremely shocked when she found the lifeless body of her infant baby with no head or arms.
According to preliminary police reports, the infant appeared to have been dismembered or possibly devoured by animals because the head, upper limbs, and arms were completely gone.
According to the police, it appeared that the baby had been eaten by wild animals. This incident has left the community shocked and with more questions.
The police are currently investigating to uncover more information about how the body ended up where it was found.
