20-year-old man arrested for possession of six unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Police in Matlala and Seshego arrested five suspects aged between 20 and 44 for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and negligence handling of firearm in separate incidents on Saturday, 13 July 2024.

In Matlala police arrested three suspects aged between 25 and 42 following an information about suspects driving in a grey VW Polo that was involved in a business robbery case at Naboomspruit policing area, during July 2024.

The described vehicle was spotted at the complex with five occupants. The Police approached the vehicle tactically and managed to arrest three suspects, meanwhile other two fled the scene on foot.

Upon searching the vehicle and the suspects, they were found in possession of 01 × pistol with no serial number, 01 x megasyne, 06x rounds, 01 x black toy pistol with 01 magazine and 03 pallet rounds. They were immediately arrested. Their vehicle was also confiscated.

Meanwhile, the Seshego police nabbed a 20-year-old male for possession of six unlicensed firearms and ammunition. During the search, police found the firearm inside a closet wrapped in green plastic.

“His aunt aged 44 who is the owner of the firearms was charged with negligence handling of firearms. Preliminary investigation revealed that the female suspect aged 44 was owning a security company which is no longer operating.

“The suspects will appear before Matlala and Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 July 2024,” said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
