The body of a missing deputy director at the Department of Water and Sanitation has been found.

Sello Machitje was reported missing last Monday.  It is believed that he was hijacked while travelling between Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.

Machitje’s bakkie was traced to Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, and a 53-year-old suspect was arrested.

Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza says the suspect is yet to be linked to Machitje’s murder.

“The person was confirmed by the family as that of Mr Sello Machitje. The investigations are ongoing to link at the possible link between the person who was arrested for the possession of his vehicle and the murder itself.”

Social media posts about his disappearance suggest Machitje was hijacked in the Vaal area.
