The South African Police Service in Limpopo led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Support Services, Major General Christina Morakaladi laid to rest one of the most talented police official, a musician, Constable Selaelo Daniel Maredi (33) who was laid in a solemn official funeral on Sunday, 18 August 2024, at his village in Seshego, Capricorn District.
The late Maredi passed away on Thursday, 08 August 2024, after he was knocked down by a vehicle.
Constable Maredi was honoured in a befitting funeral service that was attended by SAPS high-ranking officers and various stakeholders , including the Department of Transport and Community Safety and the community of Seshego at large
The SAPS members clad in ceremonial uniform provided a guard of honour, reflecting the service’s admiration and appreciation for the late Constable.
His career was marked by an unwavering commitment of service to the provincial band.
He completed his National Diploma in Music at Tshwane University of Technology. On 1 April 2017, he was enlisted in the South African Police Services and was assigned to the Corporate Communication working under the provincial band. His sudden death is described as a great loss to the country.
As he paid his condolences to the deceased, immediate Commander, Captain Setumo said that Maredi was the greatest pianist of all time, well-known worldwide for his musical career, and that he was also quite modest, courteous, gifted in other areas, committed, and a trumpet player.
“Constable Selaelo Daniel Maredi respectfully accepted responsibility for his errors,”said Setumo.
Colonel William Mapaya, the Provincial Commander of Corporate Communication spoke highly of the talent of Constable Selaelo Daniel Maredi. “The late Constable Maredi was a well-known musician across the country. South Africa has lost a talented musician. He was also the pianist for Pulmusca.
“His musical ability led Limpopo province to victory at the Northern Cape competition in 2017, the same year he joined the band.”
During his address, the Provincial Head of Corporate Communication, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba stated that when he found out about Constable Maredi’s unexpected death, he could not understand nor comprehend that indeed he was no longer alive.
He further said the late Constable had a genuine love for people. “This is evident in that he was sensitive to others’s weaknesses while recognizing and respecting other people’s strengths,” said Mashaba.
He further urged the members of the provincial band to continue with Maredi’s musical passion, by mesmerising communities with music and using it to heal their souls amidst life challenges.
Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Support Services , Major General Christine Morakaladi described Constable Selaelo Daniel Maredi as a dedicated musician, a devoted spouse, and a cherished member of the South African Police Service.
“On behalf of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and management, we extend our sincerest condolences to Maredi’s family, friends and colleagues . Similarly, we convey our appreciation to his family for allowing him to be an integral part of our organisation for more than seven years.
“He was a proficient pianist in the Provincial SAPS band, showcasing his musical talents far and wide. He traversed the country extensively, imparting the gift of music to all who were fortunate to listen.
“His unwavering commitment and profound devotion were genuinely inspiring, and his absence would be deeply felt.
“To his beloved wife, the General, offer words of solace and fortitude. Find strength in the love and cherished memories you both shared during this challenging time. While you may feel the absence of a companion, remember that you are not alone,” concluded General Morakaladi.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) Mahlangu concluded the program with a sermon, thus encouraging family members and mourners at large.
