ActionSA Cllr. Mpumi Edward chaired her first meeting as Chairperson of Finance Committee in City of Johannesburg. This critical oversight committee ensures that more than 6 million residents receive uncompromised service delivery, and that every cent is accounted for.
Cllr Edward conveyed her gratitude to the team of dedicated men and women who have steered the City through difficult financial tribulations, and emphasised the spirit of mutual respect amongst its members.
She said the Oversight Committee’s priorities will be grounded in principles of excellence and accountability, with focus on:
*Conducting effective oversight: Ensuring that all financial activities are closely monitored and managed with the highest level of scrutiny.
*Maximizing the City’s financial resources: Working diligently to ensure that every penny is spent wisely, avoiding fruitless and wasteful expenditure, particularly on Capex projects.
*Holding the Executive accountable: Making sure that all executive actions are in line with our city’s goals and standards, ensuring transparency and responsibility.
*Improving revenue collection and service delivery: Enhancing the operational efficiency of the City’s revenue system, so as to boost service delivery and resolve issues related to incorrect billing and service cut-offs.
*Reports and recommendations to Council: To ensure that as many resolutions as possible are effectively implemented by the relevant departments.
Cllr Edward looks forward to fostering an environment where both Legislative and Executive can engage constructively, respectfully and professionally, as they seek to implement good governance policies and principles in the City of Johannesburg.
