Johannesburg emergency services confirmed that a fire in Alexandra destroyed some 15 informal dwellings.
The blaze broke out on Tuesday morning.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said no injuries or fatalities were reported.
“Firefighters found multiple shacks well alight and started evacuating occupants while conducting firefighting operations. In the process, about 15 shack dwellings were totally destroyed by the fire.
“Residents are urged to exercise caution when using any heating devices. Paraffin stoves should not be left unattended while in use to prevent fire incidents at home.
“Disaster management officials have been activated to start facilitating relief for affected residents.”
Mulaudzi said the cause of the fire is not yet known.
