The never-ending case of Sandton View High School boy Thando Khumalo’s murder continues to drag on as yet another postponement, on the count of 11 so far, has been ordered, and the sentencing of his killer is now scheduled for October 7.

The social worker for the convicted murderer, Peter Mphulo Magolego, has finally handed in her report, despite her confirmation that it was ready during the previous postponement. She only handed it to the Alexandra Regional Court yesterday morning, September 19, prompting yet another delay.

As the document has to be studied by the court, the case had to be postponed and all parties agreed on October 7 as the most appropriate date for the sentencing of Magolego, who is currently in custody and facing two more murder charges, one in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, and the other in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

Thando (20) was fatally shot at close range after a chase by Magolego following a road rage incident on August 28, 2022.

The Grade 11 learner was returning to his home in Tsutsumani Village in Alexandra in the early morning hours, after a night out with six of his friends, when he met his tragic death on the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyr Street.

The boys had an argument with the convict, who then produced a gun and the boys abandoned their car and bolted on foot while Magolego gave chase.

He caught up with Thando and shot him in the head. The boy died on the spot. Two other boys received injuries to their legs and were rushed to hospital.
