Six suspects have been killed in a dramatic shootout between police and a suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) heist gang located in Laudium, west of Pretoria, with Vicky Nyalunga among them

The incident, which unfolded on February 24, 2025, was the result of a police operation following a tip-off about a planned CIT robbery at Attlyn Mall in Atteridgeville.

According to police reports, officers identified two vehicles that were believed to have been involved in the theft and pursued them as they made their way towards Laudium. Upon arriving at Military Road, law enforcement made an effort to stop the vehicles, but the suspects refused to comply and accelerated away while firing on the police.

When the suspects exited their vehicles, the pursuit ended and resulted in a fierce gun battle. The exchange led to the deaths of six suspects on the scene.
The investigation revealed that a vehicle used in the attempted robbery had been reported stolen in Clay.
