‘NO ONE SHOULD ENTER CONSTRUCTION SITE’

This bold remark was uttered by the enraged subcontractors who boycotted work next to Madala Hostel in Alexandra.

The construction site is currently a no-go-area since last week Wednesday, 10 March. The subcontractors downed tools and staged protest for three days after they raised concerns about not being paid for the past two months by the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO).

They were paid on Friday.

A meeting between workers and JOSHCO is expected to take place on Wednesday, 17 March.

Workers will further raise outstanding grievances.

A subcontractors’ representative, Sara Modiba, said no work would resume on site until the outcome of the Wednesday’s meeting.

The meeting will also determine if they would resume work or not.

Workers said they were monitoring the site to ensure no one entered the premises.
