Isaac Mangena, spokesperson for the City Power says they were taking drastic measures after horrendous explosion which nearly claimed life of a resident in River Park yesterday at Phase 3, Sweet Williams Street.

Thabang Pitso is alleged to have caused the explosion at the  bug green box in the area when he allegedly connected power illegally.

The badly burnt Pitso now fights for his life after he was transferred from Edenvale to Bara Hospital.

“It will take a while before we can repair or replace that box,”Mangena said.

Mangena said City Power has taken the  matter “to our Risk Control, we want Thabang Pitso to be arrested for vandalism, unauthorized access to the network, sabotage, and working on municipal infrastructure without permit, immediately when he is released from hospital”.

He said they  wanted to send a strong message to the community.

“No one should open and vandalize our infrastructure. Community should also know that paying people to work on City Power infrastructure is dangerous, but also a huge inconvenience when lights go off due to that.”
