Gladys Nomvula Magongwa (20) doesn’t always look this way!
But her gorgeous face was reduced to ugliness after she was disfigured by the man she thought loved her. Her holiday season was an absolute nightmare!
“I opened a case and he got arrested on Saturday. The incident happened on Thursday night outside his place and after that he locked me in his room.
” And told me I’m not going anywhere, when he saw that I was trying to contact the police. He took my phone and smashed it, tore my clothes and forced himself on me while I was crying and still in pain from the beating,”said an Alex woman.
Thabang Mjankero Tlowana (35), born in Alex, has always been jealous of her appearance and beauty.
He allegedly hated how other men would compliment her, how his friends would laugh at him about how he ended up with a pretty girl like her when he looks awful!
She said he was extremely jealous and insecure.
“If I have visited him just looking pretty, he would just get angry. When we started dating he told me stop wearing skirts and dresses so I was always in jeans.
” No matter how long the skirt is, he would tell me I’m trying to attract other men. If for, instance, we’re walking on the street and he sees someone looking at me, I know when we get home I’m in trouble.
“And I have no control over who looks at me and who doesn’t,” says Nomvula , originally from Ga-Mashane Polokwane. However, she grew up in Alex.
According to Nomvula, who still takes care of her bruised face, the man started mistreating her a few months after they started dating.
“His family would get involved and plead with me, to forgive him. They’ve always condoned his behavior to a point where I once got him arrested as he had badly beaten me up and they bailed him out and begged me to drop the charges.
“He’s also emotionally abusive and would tell me things like if you leave me no one will love you like I did, no one will want you after I’m done with you.
“He would tell me how useless and how stupid I am. He would call me all sorts of names, but I stayed. He is manipulative and would always gaslight me.”
She says her friends, his friends, her family and his family were random people on the streets.
“Because sometimes he’d hit me and drag me in the streets where everyone could see.
“He was always suspecting that I’m cheating, knowing very well that he’s the one that’s cheating. This is the guy that does things, and these things start eating him to the point where he thought I was doing the same things too.
“My phone never had a password and he always insisted on going through it and usually found nothing. But his phone always had passwords and I wasn’t even allowed to touch it.
“He would get phone calls at night and I’m not even allowed to ask what’s happening or there’s gonna be war.”
After the ordeal, she only managed to leave on Friday morning and opened a case against him.
“He got arrested on Saturday midday. The whole abuse made me feel worthless. It made me feel weak and it traumatized me. It drained me. At some point I started blaming myself for attracting people.
“He told me that I can’t just leave him and continue with life as normal. He would come to my house and strangle me outside my gate.
“He would push me inside the car, lock it and take me to his place by force.”
Whenever she left him, he sent her photos of muthi and threatened to ruin her life.
She said that he would tell her that once he had finished with her, no one would approach her.
“He is those ‘If I can’t have you no one else can have you’ type of guy. Our fights would always be about him entertaining and even flirting with other people in my presence or the people that I attract in which I wouldn’t even know.”
