On Friday, March 11, 2022, members of the Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit received a complaint in Pretoria West Luttig Street, about individuals who were busy reconnecting electrically.

 

Electricity was switched off earlier by the City of Tshwane ‘Tshwane ya tima’.

 

Tshwane Metropolitan Senior Superintendent, Isaac Mahamba
said the officers went to the location and found three suspects busy with reconnections. They were arrested for damaging and tampering with essential infrastructure.

Mahamba said in the early hours of Friday morning, on the same day, a joint operation regarding cable theft was conducted by TMPD Cable Theft Unit, SAPS, other law enforcement agencies and roles players.

 

“During the operation, a vehicle was stopped and searched in Akasia Pretoria North. Inside the vehicle they discovered stolen copper cables. The driver of the vehicle tried to offer a bribe of R5000.

 

“He was arrested for Possession of suspected stolen cables and bribery. Two other people were arrested, one for possession of ammunition and the other for drunk driving. 131 vehicles were searched.

 

“Well done to the team and all the role players. We continue to clean up the City of Tshwane,” said Mahamba.
