Paramedics declared 15 people dead on the scene, while 37 patients were transported to Dr George Mukhari, Steve Biko and Kalafong Hospitals.
Of the 15 deceased, 8 were females and 7 males, whereas 26 patients sustained minor to moderate injuries, 4 sustained moderate to critical injuries and 7 suffered critical injuries.
According to Tshwane Emergency Services a bus and truck collided on the M17 Road in Patryshoek, near the Bundu Inn Resort on 10 June 2022, at approximately 05:05.
Thabo Charles Mabaso Deputy Chief (Public Information and Media Liaison Officer) said when emergency services arrived on the scene, multiple patients were lying around and some still trapped inside both vehicles.
Mabaso said Tshwane firefighter, Gauteng Emergency Medical Service and private ambulance services started with the treatment and extrication of the injured.
“The M17 road remains closed between the N4 on ramp and off ramp and the K8, Rosslyn to allow the recovery of the deceased, the bus and truck as well as on scene investigations.
“The closure is anticipated to last more than 5 hours.
“The cause of the accident remains the subject of investigation by law enforcement agencies,” Mabaso said.
