While others are recovering from their skwata camps near the containers after being shot at Marlboro containers, the 16-year-old boy is reportedly recovering after being in the ICU.

Unfortunately, EFF PR councilor Moshe Mphahlele succumbed to injuries after being shot.

In the meantime, the police said they are investigating the circumstances that led to his death.

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the police received information about a man who was shot and taken to the local clinic.

“Upon arrival at the clinic, police were shown the body of a man who had a gunshot wound. Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim, who was a community leader, was shot when the members of Johannesburg Metro Police Department and Private Security Officers were removing people who allegedly occupied the private containers,” said Masondo.

The EFF in Gauteng said
Mphahlele, who was the Regional Deputy Secretary of the EFF Johannesburg Region and PR councilor in the City of Johannesburg municipal council, was senselessly shot and killed.

In the statement, the EFF said a number of community members were also wounded on Sunday, 4th of August.

“Fighter Mphahlele was engaged in a peaceful service delivery program advocating for social housing for the people in need. As a Public Representative Councilor, Fighter Mphahlele was mediating between the homeless community members and government officials to address the matter.

“During this peaceful engagement, fighter Mphahlele was fatally shot with live ammunition by reckless and irresponsible members of a security company.

“It is important to highlight that the security company had no justification for using live ammunition, as the situation was calm and non-violent.

“Even more alarming is that this reckless shooting occurred in the presence of state security agencies. It is infuriating and tragic that state security officials would delegate the responsibility of protecting our people during a peaceful protest to brutal private security companies, which have consistently demonstrated a disregard for human life.

“Fighter Moshe was a revolutionary ground force of the EFF, a dedicated community activist who committed his life to improving the living conditions of the people of Johannesburg and Alexandra.

“Those responsible for his tragic death must face the full force of the law,” said the EFF.

According to EFF Secretary General Commissar, Marshall Dlamini, a memorial service will held at 14 PM at Sankopano Community Centre in Alex on Wednesday.

Mphahlele will be buried at Lebowakgomo Gamphahlele in Limpopo on Friday.
