The Limpopo Division of High Court in Polokwane has on Tuesday, 08 October 2024, sentenced Moeti Frank Mnisi (49) to an effective 20 (twenty) years imprisonment after he was positively linked with a murder case of his ex-girlfriend during September 2022 in Burgesfort policing area.
The court heard that on 09 September 2022, the accused brutally killed a 36-year-old woman at the rented place in Burgesfort Suburb and thereafter dumped her lifeless body under bridge along the R555 Provincial road near a casino.
The matter was reported to the police and the lifeless body of the female was recovered a few days after the incident.
The case was assigned to Sergeant Mahlatse Montle attached to the Burgersfort Detective unit who carried out a meticulous investigation.
Subsequent to further intensive investigations by the investigating officer, the suspect was linked to the incident and arrested.
The Polokwane High Court sentenced him as follows:
* Count 01, Murder: Twenty-five years imprisonment of which five years was suspended on condition that the accused was not convicted on similar offense in the past five years.
* Count 02, Theft: Two years imprisonment
* Count 03, Defeating the ends of justice: Three years imprisonment.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said sentences on count 02 and 03 shall run concurrently with the sentence in count 01. “The effective sentence is twenty years imprisonment,” said Ledwaba.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing and acknowledged the excellence investigation skills displayed by the investigating officer in the case and other role players who played part.
