After the 2021 Local government elections in Alexandra, there has never been a launch of ActionSA branches in Alexandra and there was no active branch of after the elections, according to Shadrack Mkhonto.
Mkhonto says he found all wards dead in Alex with some members left for Patriotic Alliance (PA).
” Some of the previous ActionSA candidates who stood in some wards , specially in ward 109, left to PA with the majority of members after they didn’t make it to ActionSA council PR list .
“I started from the scratch recruiting new members in those wards since January this year. I have done the ground work with few members who were still interested in ActionSA.
“And we recruited new members in all those wards from January to April whereby I decided to have have the branches launched.
“I invited the provincial chair Clr Funzi Ngobeni and our President Herman Mashaba to be my guest speakers on the launch .
“I booked a hall at Realogile high school where we normally have our monthly meetings . Out of the three branches, I managed to launch only two branches… ward 109 and 116, due to ward 108 not meeting the requirements.
“What is important is that the two wards were the first wards to be launched out of 16 wards we have in region E, Alexandra Constituency.”
He said the attendance during the launch of the wards was huge, adding that the rest would be launched before end of August this year.
“It was of great excitement to the members to be addressed by the Provincial chair, Funzi Ngobeni and our President Herman Mashaba,” he said.
The mayor of Alex, as Mkhonto is affectionately called, was deployed out of Alex in April 2022 to Midrand areas.
After majority of ActionSA supporters felt rejected and demanded him back to Alex, Mkhonto was redeployed back last year October.
“I was not given my former ward 105, but instead, I was deployed to four wards…107,108,109 and ward 116.
“ActionSA is growing in numbers in Alexandra specially to those wards under my leadership,” he concluded.
