Model and actress Luyanda Zwane has expressed her happiness and excitement at getting her dreadlocks back.

This follows her departure from Sibongile and the Dlaminis, a telenovela that airs on Mzansi Wethu.

Through her social media platforms, the lead actress — who played a teenage girl from Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal’s rural community, named Sibongile — explained why she had to give up her hair for the part.

Zwane, who also acted on Redemption, said when she booked the job a year ago, the team she worked with on the show informed her that she would need to change her look, and that included her hair.

New look
“You may be wondering why I am so excited to have my hair back, so a year ago I booked a job for the Sibongile character, and they told me that they wanted to do something different with my hair,” explained Zwane.

“When I got to work for the make-up check, they told me that they wanted to cut my hair because Sibongile is from Ixopo and they wanted to give her a natural look.”

She also posted a video of herself crying while having her hair chopped.

“So, I sacrificed my hair. I cut down on my dreadlocks for the job, and I do not regret it; it was all worth it,” she said.

“And you may be asking yourself why I cried; it is simply because I got my hair when I was five years old, and I had to cut it off 10 or 12 years later. I am so happy that they are back.”

While Zwane did not fully disclose the reasons behind her departure from the show, she hinted that an older actor was mistreating her.

“Stop asking me why I’m leaving the show; you don’t know what I went through,” she posted.

“When that one old actor told extras that I was faking being sick on set when I was on oxygen and could barely breathe.

“When they said I’m full of myself and it was difficult when I did not go to the watch party, in the meantime, I was at the hospital watching the first episode with my grandmother, who was dying of cancer.”
