Afrotainment, a record label based in Durban, KZN, which manages Mandla Maphumulo, has issued a statement asking for prayers.
” This statement serves as a notification to the public, Media, promoters and Big Nuz fans about businessman and artist, Mandla Maphumulo.
“The star as he is affectionately known as Mampintsha, from multi-award winning group Big Nuz, has suffered a minor stroke a week ago upon his return from a performance with Big Nuz.
“He is currently in hospital receiving medical attention and is under doctors observations.
“The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
“We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him speedy recovery and we cannot wait for him to rock our stage again,” reads the statement.
The 40-year-old musician, who is married to Gqom star Babes Wodumo, was reportedly admitted to the hospital over the weekend and was later taken to Durdoc Hospital in Durban Central.
His sister Pinki Gumede has confirmed the news to Daily Sun that they were worried about him.
“On Saturday, 17 December, we received a phone call informing us to rush to his house. When we arrived there, he looked very sick. His speech was already affected.
“He told us that he consulted with isangoma and was told he need to do a traditional ceremony.”
Gumede further stated that Mampintsha told the family to buy a goat and get impepho so that he could perform a ritual.
“We went back home and did exactly that. But he never arrived. Instead, he phoned and told us to perform the ritual without him. We were surprised by this, but couldn’t do anything. As a result, we slaughtered the goat and ate it. But we didn’t burn impepho.”
Gumede told the publication that she felt sidelined.
“Again we contacted Babes and her family, but we were told not to worry about him because everything is fine.
“We know he’s very sick but we are being sidelined again and there is nothing we can do. We are worried and scared that something bad might happen to him.”
According to Daily Sun, the singer had recently made a triumphant return with Big Nuz after a decade-long split.
Mampintsha’s health has been scrutinized on social media after fans questioned his mysterious weight loss.
The Ngeke hitmaker had to address social media users’ distasteful comments surrounding his weight.
He said he did not care because people who mocked him when he was still overweight.
He also mentioned that he had taken the healthy eating route. In addition, he revealed that he had bought gym equipment with the goal of losing fat and getting fit.
