“A case of murder was opened at Bramley Police Station. The suspect by the name of Walter (Wally) Matsena, aged 34, from Mamayila was arrested and charged with murder.

“He is expected to appear again at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 05 May 2023,” said Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo.

Matsena is now out on bail in R2000 after allegedly shooting a 38-year-old father of two children (8 and 2), Abedi Mavuyangwa in Setjwetla.

It is claimed that Abedi had an altercation on March 4 with his wife in their home. His wife has family ties to Matsena.

Abedi’s father, Abel Mavuyangwa (58) told Alex Reporter that the police area manager who made the statement, is allegedly in love with Matsena’s mom and bias.

Matsena’s mother’s house was allegedly vandalized by the community after they finished burning his two cars in Setjwetla.

The residents were angry when she allegedly told them that no one was going to touch her or her son.

“After the incident, my son’s eight-year-old boy rushed in and told us that Wally had shot his father with four bullets.

“When I went there, I found him lying in the pool of blood with people screaming. We managed to rush him to the hospital with an Avanza.

“When I came back from the hospital around 12 midnight , I went to check where he had been shot in search of catridges, but I never found them,” he said.

The following day, Mavuyangwa received a call that his son was dead.

Mavuyangwa and his brother, Caswel, told journalists that the statement was charged, allegedly by the same of the sector manager known to us.

“The allegations that Abedi went to the suspect’s home, pulled out a knife and that Wally shot him in self-defense where untrue,” they said.

The Mavuyangwas alleged the following:

• Cartridges were picked up by the suspect’s wife.
• The sector manager forced Abedi’s wife to open a case against him while he was in the ICU and she refused.
• The suspect called the deceased’s wife and asked her to meet him at a private location, but she refused.
• The suspect was released on bail with no verification of his address.
• The deceased’s wife fainted when she was beaten on the head by the accused before her man was shot.
• The deceased’s son was sent for counselling because he saw what happened to his father.
• The statements of the Mavuyangwa family and the spouse of the deceased were not recorded by the police.
• The police have not visited the crime scene.
• The sector manager wrote that the suspect was defending himself.

Masondo stated that the relationship between the accused’s mother and the sector manager was unrelated to the case.

He said that the sector manager took an oath to help everyone without discrimination.

However, Masondo said for the officer to have allegedly written in the statement that the suspect was acting on self defense, he was already judging.

The sector manager was not reached for comment when Alex Reporter called him.

Mavuyangwa insisted his son got shot at home.

“You can’t be shot four times and be able to run to your room without anyone seeing you or the blood.”

“They are cooking stories and we don’t know what will happen Tomorrow.

“75 K have already been paid to that family so that the accused walks free,” he claimed.

Mavuyangwa from Xikundu village in Malamulele had five children and Abedi was his first born.
