Alexandra councilor Moses Phandeka (50) is accused of not supporting his three month-old daughter.
Phandeka is an ANC ward 76 councilor in the Joburg Metropolitan municipality. Suzan Mathibela (38) says since birth of their daughter Phandeka has not paid a cent in the financial support of the child.
She says councilor Phandeka must at least contribute R3 000,00 per month for child maintenance. The unemployed mother of three, says she is not doing the story to destroy Pandeka’s reputation. Instead she wants him to be responsible by supporting his child.
The maintenance woes started when Pandeka allegedly failed to support the baby, two months ago.
The baby-mama took the matter to the Alexandra Maintenance Court where settlement out of court agreement was reached, where Phandeka said he will support the child financially but that has not happened to date.
When approached for a comment, Phandeka refuted the claims saying he does support the child.
“That is my child. I cannot run away from my responsibilities as a father and am prepared to do everything for the baby.”
The couple will appear again in the maintenance court on 28 January 2021.
Alex Reporter understands that an average salary for a councilor in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan municipality is over R20 000 per month.
