“No bail for perpetrators of GBVF.
“On 5 September 2022, we woke up to news that our daughter, Palesa Matlamela had died, Palesa’s Mother
Eunice Matlamela
According to reports, Palesa’s boyfriend, Roy Mphephu assaulted her at Alex Boulevard, 8th Avenue, on Sunday 4 September 2022.
Mphephu allegedly fatally assaulted Palesa and allegedly dropped her at Edenvale Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
He handed himself over to the Police few days after the incident.
His bail application was on Wednesday, 25 January 2023. It was postponed to allow instigators to verify his home address.
The bail application resumes in the Johannesburg Regional Magistrate Court (Westgate) on Wednesday, 01 February 2023.
“Roy should not receive bail; he is a feared gangster in the community of Alexandra and should he receive bail, he will surely intimidate witnesses.
“We are also afraid of him as a family”, Eunice said.
The Matlamela family appeals to members of the community, Community Based Organisations, Political Parties and the Media to join “us for a peaceful picket outside the Johannesburg Magistrate Court. This to demonstrate that we are against Mphephu receiving bail”.
“Perpetrators of GBVF should know that communities are united against this pandemic. We will not be silenced,” Eunice said.
