A social networking and entertainment movement known as Alex Life Begins at 40 celebrated its first year of existence.
The initiative was created by Jimmy Masingi, founder and chairman of the movement.
Masingi said that since the movement began, they haven’t looked back. The idea was to mobilize and bring together people aged 40 and over, to come together and address the social problems they encounter in their daily lives.
“We tackle the issues of gender-based violence, crime, unemployment and other social ills.
“We made the decision to celebrate this milestone together. “We started as only 10 members, but today we are boasting about 100 members,” he said.
Masingi says they established the WhatsApp group for their smooth communication.
“As a way of giving back to the community, on our birthday celebration, we adopted a boy by the name of Thabo Ngomane who has a rare disease called Down Sendrum.
“Everyone in the movement donated groceries, clothing and much more for him and his family.”
Thabo’s mom, Thandiwe, is part of this movement. Following the donation, she said: “I will like to take this opportunity to thank all who contributed to my son’ donation and thanks to the love you showed to my son and God bless you all.
Masingi concluded: “I would like to thank all our members for the donation you made to Thabo and his family, because they say that Blessed is the hand that gives.
“I will also like to thank our media partner Alex FM for donating a very big cake to help us celebrate our birthday, the Alex FM board ,the station manager, Mr Takalane Nemangowe and all Alex FM crew for their support and good working relationship.”
