Kgotso Innocent Ratladi, who is afflicted with mental illness and substance abuse, is said to have been falsely accused of theft.
The incident occurred on 02/09/2024. The situation escalated significantly when Kgotso was accused of taking a golf stick, and later accused of taking three mobile phones from his neighbor, according to the information.
Kgotso’s cousin, pastor Tumelo Shai, said he was disturbed when his neighbor aggravated the violence by throwing boiling water on him.
“I tried to protect him from further harm, including preventing her from beating him with a golf stick and she went back into the house to boil another water but never used it again
“They slapped him repeatedly and then she began throwing bricks at him. The husband was inside the house and never took part in the drama until my cousin also retaliated by slapping their daughter because she was repeatedly slapping him.
“My neighbor’s reactions was to kill him not to discipline him. My cousin sustained severe injuries and required immediate medical attention. We rushed him to Masekane Clinic towards midnight accompanied by my family,” said Shai.
Shai said he was advised to open a case with the police to protect his cousin and ensure that justice was served.
“However, I hesitated to do so due to concerns about creating further conflict with my neighbors. But I did open the case eventually and my neighbor got arrested in the morning today (Thursday).”
