An editorial take on the recent attack on councillor Marema

What happened with Ward 116 councillor Adolf Marema yesterday was totally out of order.

We were told that about 16 residents who wanted to build huts in the Marema area, became furious when the councilman called the JMPD to demolish them.

After an altercation, the irate inhabitants wanted to burn down Marema’s house.

Recently on this page, we asked people’s views on who was the best councillor in Alex.

And the uncompromising support went to Marema as the top leader, followed by councilman Tefo Raphadu of the Ward 105.

You love him or not, but according to the polls, the man remains the favored leader who quickly deals with problems whenever necessary.

As a renowned journalist, who has worked with almost every councillor, I believe that those who elected him the best were not drugged and I agree with them.

Instead of abusing the councillor when you are not satisfied, check his obligation first.

Ask yourself whether he is indeed authorized to take measures whenever there is anarchy in his constituency, and you will realize that erasing illegal mkhukhus was part of his mandate.

I also kept a close eye on EFF’s public relations councillor, Washington Maponyane, and concluded that he was third-favored leader in Alex. The guy is always hard at work!

The former DA PR Councillor, Shadrack Mkhonto, became the fourth beloved Councillor. Mkhonto, nicknamed Alex’s mayor, almost took over all the neighborhoods when he said he was the borderless councilor.

Don’t ask me who the worst councillors are, I won’t tell you.

But most of the ANC councillors are so relaxed, old, infamous, and seem to have given up on their calling, and as a result people are flow-crossing.
