Musina based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested an attorney (35) for allegedly aiding someone to escape, conspiracy to escaping from lawful custody, and interfering with the police duties at Giyani on the 22 August 2024.
The suspect was arrested at Giyani Magistrates’ Court for an alleged theft of motor vehicle. After his court appearance, the Hawks served him with a warrant of arrest for another case relating to the theft of motor vehicle.
“He was handcuffed, and while police officials were busy with the arrangements to take the suspect to police station, his attorney took him to his vehicle (attorney) and drove away at high speed. Police gave chase, to no avail.
“The attorney later drove to Giyani police station with the suspect, who was still restrained with the police handcuffs. They were both arrested, and they expected to appear before Giyani Magistrate Court on Friday, 23 August 2024,” said Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv.) Gopz Govender welcomed the arrest. He further sent a stern warning to other officials to refrain from interfering with police duties.
