A pregnant woman went to Maphutha during an emergency as the child was about to be born.
Instead of being immediately assisted, she was allegedly made to wait while sitting on a wheelchair to check her blood pressure. While she was in pain and asking for help, she was allegedly ignored by nurses until she gave birth in a container building at Maphutha Malatji hospital.
The child came out like a bullet and ended up falling down and died on a Monday. The mother of the child is 17 year old.
One of the nurses at the Maternity section of Maphutha hospital allegedly intimidated the 30-year-old male partner of the lady, saying that he would be arrested because he was involved in a relationship with a minor.
According to reports, the nurse stated that it is against the law for him to be involved with the young girl. Currently, she is at her family’s house after being discharged.
We will update the story when we receive comment from the Department of health.
