The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the domestic violence incident in which a 38-year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed to death allegedly by her boyfriend at Bothashoek village, on Sunday, 09 June 2024.

Police were summoned to a local clinic after a female victim lost her life while receiving treatment. According to information, the victim and her boyfriend were in a local tavern in the evening of Saturday, 08 June 2024, when they had a heated argument.

Apparently, her boyfriend assaulted her, and the tavern owner intervened. The victim left them at the tavern, allegedly going to report the incident to the Police.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, preliminary investigations established that the suspect followed the victim, assaulted her, and stabbed her with an unknown instrument.

“He then took the victim to her residence and stayed with her until the following day. The victim’s family noticed heavy blood stains that led to her room, and her boyfriend was sitting outside the room.

“They entered and found her bleeding and seriously injured. They immediately arranged transport to take her to the local clinic, where she unfortunately succumbed to the injuries,” said Ledwaba.

Ledwaba said the suspect, who was also at the clinic, disappeared upon the police’s arrival. Police opened a case of murder for further investigations.

The investigating team launched a search for the suspect and received positive information, which led to his arrest while in Burgersfort town going to Lydenburg at around 20:00, on Sunday, 09 Jun 2024.

Hadebe said as the SAPS, “we take domestic violence incidents very seriously, and we urge individuals facing such situations to seek professional support in time”.

She said community members should always take a step when they witness these incidents to save lives.

The suspect will appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 10 June 2024.

The Police investigations are continuing.
