Lefadi Chego will be sentenced following the murder of Zama Maphisa. He pleaded guilty to the two counts (murder and defeating ends of justice). The sentencing will take place on Thursday the 20th October 2022.
Maphisa’s remains were found in Mpumalanga last year. Chego allegedly hid evidence after killing her. The case was transferred to Mpumalanga as the murder was allegedly committed there.
Maphisa (35) who left behind her three-month-old baby, was buried in KZN.
Chego (47) was arrested after an attempted suicide. He allegedly swallowed poison before officers could question him
He allegedly spoke to the police about his girlfriend’s remains.
Maphisa’s story made headlines following her disappearance on September 29, 2021.
Maphisa was taken by her boyfriend on an outing to Mpumalanga from their home in Alexandra.
The plan, as reported, was to repair their broken relationship. But she never returned home alive.
Maphisa’s sister, Tracey Sithole told Scrolla.Africa that Chego, who had been charged with kidnapping and murder, took the police to the spot where he had dumped her after stabbing her to death.
On arrival in Mpumalanga, Chego allegedly showed officers where Maphisa’s remains were. They found her shoes, clothes and the weave she was wearing when she was last seen.
“My cousin who has been looking after Zama’s three children including the toddler has been depressed which has even resulted in her losing her job,” said Tracy.
Tracey said Chego admitted to the police that he stabbed his girlfriend to death before dumping her in the bushes.
The murderer’s sister, and Jeminah Mokoana told Scrolla.Africa in October of that police and the law must not be lenient towards her brother. She said that her brother had many girlfriends, as well as a wife at home.
