The community and other stakeholders came together to witness the donation of recycling station by Coca-Cola during Mandela International Day held in Alexandra, Juskei Park.
Pirtunia Dlamini, Public Affairs Communications and Sustainable manager at Coca Cola Beverages SA, said it was honour for the Coca Cola to have participated in the programme.
” What Alexandra Water Warriors are doing ties in beautifully with our World Without Waste Programme,” she said.
Dlamini said they were happy when they were invited to the Juskei River cleanup campaign. ” We are very happy to join in because the number one ingredient in our product is water.
” What I like about this programme is that it’s community led. And because it’s community-led, sustainability is bound to be there. I want to see how they grow because they will be selling their waste through to recyclers and be able to create sustainable livelihood for themselves,” said Dlamini.
While thanking Coca Cola, Paul Maluleke, leader of Alexandra Water Warriors, said it was an important day for the environmentalists “and also for the Alexandra Water Warriors because we have been recognised by big brands, government and the community at large. The City of Johannesburg through the office of regional director, Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro, gave us a lot of support”.
Maluleke said when they started in 2021 they were 250, but currently have 700 volunteers.
Ntshinga-Makoro said, “What we are launching today is an indication of the fact that we can do it for Alexandra. This is an indication of the power that we have if we do things as a collective.”
Amongst the dignitaries was ward 105 councillor, Tefo Raphadu.
