The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) Mpumalanga has welcomed the sentencing of GBV perpetrator Constable Sizwe Cedrick Khoza who shot his wife Nomthandazo Mnisi, his sister-in-law, Xolisile Mnisi, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Mkhatshwa in April 2023.
Khoza who was a police constable at the Masoyi Police Station in Mpumalanga was sentenced to three life terms by the Mpumalanga High Court today for killing three people, two of whom were nurses.
Cyril Mdhluli, DENOSA Mpumalanga Provincial Secretary said, “DENOSA views the sentence as sending a strong message to the community that perpetrators of GBV+F are to be dealt with harshly by the law upon their arrest.
“The sentence is concomitant with the grossness of the crime, which has deprived at least more than 180 patients of the province a day, as two of the deceased were nurses.
“The convicted murderer used a state firearm to shoot the three deceased who were part of family members trying to mediate on domestic disputes.
“DENOSA further welcomes the declaration of Khoza as medically unfit to own a gun by judge Takalani Ratshibvumo.”
Mdhluli said DENOSA thanks the fellow nurses who have shown solidarity with the victims throughout the court dates, “sending a consistent message that crime must be met by a harsher sentence”.
