Biblically, Elijah appeared to be carried into heaven by a chariot of fire and horses of fire, and he and Elisha were called the chariots of Israel, as we read in the second book of Kings.
But in this article, we are pleased to introduce Elia Nkuna (33), a well-respected runner nicknamed the chariot.
He believes that running is one of the sports that is very addictive, healthy, and can help prevent aging faster. He says it would be beneficial for young people to start taking care of their bodies by spending time in running and gym.
The Chariot warns us to be careful about the food we eat these days, saying that many of them cause high blood pressure, low blood pressure, diabetes, and so on.
“If you are not a person who trains and takes care of your body, you will easily be diagnosed with illnesses that we grew up knowing were only diagnosed to old people.”
Elia began running when he was in elementary school. After matriculating in 2010, he came to Johannesburg (Chiawelo) to further his studies. This is where his passion for running evolved, and the rest is history.
“In 2017, I participated in my first professional race, the Soweto Marathon, and finished it in less than 3 hours. In 2018, I ran my first Comrades Marathon and finished it in 8 hours and 28 minutes. And in 2019, I ran the Down Run in 8 hours and 25 minutes.
“I ran the Comrades four times and received three Bill Rowen Medals and one Robert Mtshali Medal,” says the Chariot, who is also an intercessor for Power Life Ekklesia church based in Kaalfontein, Midrand.
“I would like to thank Brelko Conveyor Products for supporting me with my accommodation and other expenses every time I go to Durban to run the Comrades Marathon,” he concludes.
