This week, more than 130 educators converged at Castle Kyalami in Midrand for a first ever Educator Empowerment Seminar, which turned out to be a complete success.
Craving for solutions in the educational sector, they were shocked to find out that there are actual, practical solutions to reverse the disintegrating educational system in South Africa, and it is called “Study Technology”.
Attended by educators, principals, community leaders and students, with a number traveling from other provinces such as the Free State and North West, they were taken through presentations of several tools which laid out the 3 main barriers to learning, which, when known, can help any student learn and apply everything they’ve learned.
“What I’ve seen here today has changed my life. I swear it has. The Study Technology is our only hope. You’ve given me my hope back today,” said one of the impacted teachers in attendance.
Considering the fact that many teachers yearly are driven into hopelessness on ever being able to help the many kids passing through their classrooms with no chance of making it in life, that seminar was revelatory.
“I could see that teachers could have hoped to help their students as well as themselves with the practical tools provided for in this seminar,” said Ann Colvin, a representative of the Learner Support Program from the Church of Scientology.
An educator whose own daughter was labeled with a ‘Learning Disability’, was in tears watching one of the videos during the workshop.
Having been told that her daughter was unable to study, she said: “I am greatly relieved to know that it was all a lie and that this seminar has helped me and my daughter greatly. She can actually read now, this is amazing!!.
“Such things happen when you really isolate and handle the barriers to learning. Once you know and apply study technology, barriers to learning don’t exist anymore,” added Ms. Colvin.
One of the 15 teachers from a West Johannesburg school was very excited.
“Would you be able to come do a workshop about the Technology of Study for the entire teaching staff of the school?
“I think this could help us greatly to deal with the current situation. Actually, if you come to our school and we get everyone trained, we can be the top school in Gauteng.
“We were the first school to go fully digital and we can be the first school to go totally Study Technology! Wow!”
Study Technology is a method of teaching and learning developed by L. Ron Hubbard. It consists of tools and techniques teachers can use to improve the learning rates of students.
These same tools and techniques can be used by the students themselves to improve their ability to understand and to use the materials they study.
At the end of the workshop, the teachers all shared heartfelt sentiments and many commented on a new sense of rekindled purpose and the love of education and passion to help that so many of them had originally entered the teaching profession with.
They all exclaimed with certainty that Study Technology was indeed the answer they’d been desperate to find and the solution they felt a new found sense of demand in obtaining.
“Teachers are very valuable to the community because they carry the burden of shaping minds that will be the future.
“It is an absolute honor for us to be able to help them in their duties. We are already planning the next seminar and will continue to do so until the last teacher is given the practical tools they need to support our future leaders’ concluded Ms. Colvin.
