Former Generations actor Roderick Jaftha, known for his role as Glen Majozi on the popular soap opera, is facing a dire financial crisis that has left him desperate for assistance.
In a recent interview with ZiMoja, Roderick revealed, “I don’t even have food for my kids today, so I’m trying to run around; I am struggling to pay rent. I have small kids, and two of them are still at school.”
His situation worsened when his wife lost her job, forcing him to rely on handouts from friends and family. He expressed the difficulty of providing for his young children.
Reflected on the circumstances that led to his current struggles, Roderick spoke candidly in an interview with TshisaLIVE, revealing the emotional toll of unemployment.
“It wasn’t drugs or alcohol that made me change. It was stress, sadness and despair. It was unemployment for over three years,” he explained, describing how these pressures led to a significant change in his appearance.
“For three and a half years, I struggled to find work… Hence the weight loss and the drastic change in appearance. Stress is a wonderful slimming remedy. It has not been pleasant. It’s a cruel industry. You can be on top one day and down at the bottom the next,” he shared with TshisaLIVE.
As he navigates this tough time, Roderick hopes for community support. He is actively seeking acting gigs but finds it challenging as many productions are in vernacular languages, while he only speaks Afrikaans and English. Zimoja states that despite reaching out for help, including an email to Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture Gayton McKenzie two weeks ago, he has yet to receive a response.
