The former learners of Hlaluko Secondary School (Nwa-Ribye) in the village of Gandlanani, near Malamulele, in Limpopo province, are committed to never forget their origins.

The members, known as Hlaluko Alumni, pledged to always dig deeper into their pockets and support disadvantaged learners.

The alumni visited the school on April 13 to give gifts to deserving pupils.

“We are delighted that we were able to help learners through the members’ pockets.

“This has not been easy, as members are not well positioned to have enough to share. But due to the deep love for their former school, it was not difficult to help the learners,” said Norman Shimbyana, Chairman of Hlaluko Alumni.

The Hlaluko Alumni managed to purchase 22 trousers, 22 shirts, 16 socks and 20 liters of sanitizer.

This initiative was founded by the school’s visionary alumni and by those who are eager to take part in alleviating the challenges faced by the school’s disadvantaged learners.

The alumni are composed of members, mostly based in Gauteng.

Since the formation of the project three years ago, members have been contributing monthly.

Shimbyana informed our news team that they wanted to register the initiative as a nonprofit organization.

“We intend to secure funding to meet most of our goals.

“We want to help many learners. We would have achieved a lot should we see zero number of school dropouts,” the big Dawg said, as Ximbyana is affectionately called.

The project also includes members from outside the school.

The members always gather in different places, especially in Gauteng, have fun and deliberate on issues affecting learners at their former school.

Those interested in being part of the initiative are invited to contact Shimbyana at mabasarn@gmail.com or her vice-chairperson, surprise Chauke on 0782263289.
