At 11:00 am this morning, two police officers from SAPS Umbumbulu in Durban were on patrol when they stopped a suspicious vehicle with four occupants.

As the police officers were searching the men, they were attacked and overpowered. The suspects robbed the police officers of firearms as well as the keys of the police vehicle.

The suspects fled in their own vehicle as well as the police vehicle. All police officers as well as other law enforcement were immediately notified and the suspects were spotted in close proximity to where the robbery occurred.

Brigadier Jay Naicker said the police vehicle overturned after the suspects lost control during a chase. “The suspects abandoned the police vehicle and fled in their own vehicle.

“All available resources have been mobilised to hunt down the suspects and bring them to book. Police in Umbumbulu have registered a case of armed robbery,” Naicker said.
