A 5-year-old boy, Gontse Mathebula, who was shot and injured on Tuesday at 7th Avenue in Alexandra, has been discharged on Saturday from Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
This after the bullet was removed from his right thigh.
The boy was caught in the crossfire between the police and the suspects believed to have hijacked an A4 Audi that was traced to Alexandra.
The shootout also left one suspect dead while the other managed to escape on foot.
Gauteng Police Captain Mavela Masondo said police recovered the hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm.
However,Masondo claimed the boy wasn’t shot, but hit by the hijacked speeding vehicle.
