Limpopo- Polokwane based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation in collaboration with the Public Order Police (POP) Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Modimolle Vispol have on 08 August 2024 pounced an alleged firearm training facility at Modimolle and raided several firearms and ammunition.
It is alleged that the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation received a tip-off about the suspicious training camp at one of the farms in Modimolle. A sting operation in collaboration with the above-mentioned units was conducted.
During the operation, the team seized licensed rifles, pistol, and ammunition believed to be used during training. The purpose of the training is not yet clear, but the military related training cannot be ruled out.
Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa said the manner in which firearms and ammunition landed at the farm is still under investigation. “No one was arrested,” said Mmuroa.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender praised the team for their wonderful job. The General further indicated that it is the duty of the police to work towards preventing anything that threatens the safety and security of this country.
