The Coligny Magistrates Court postponed the murder and rape case against Petrus Moswea (25) to 25 October 2021 for a bail application.
Moswea today, 18 October 2021 appointed a Legal Aid attorney following his application for a legal representative. The state will oppose bail as it deems this offence to be of a serious nature.
According to police reports Moswea was arrested on Monday, 11 October 2021 after his 70-year-old mother’s lifeless body was discovered on Monday, 11 October 2021 at Nicolaas farm, near Coligny.
Information from the police indicate that the accused reported the incident to the police, who then accompanied him to the scene of the crime.
According to the police, their preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was severely assaulted with a knobkerrie, raped and then killed.
Henry Mamothame NPA Spokesperson said the deceased is reported to have been staying together with her husband and the accused at the time of the offence.
However the husband was not at the farm when the incident occurred.
Mamothame said police reports further indicate that Moswea admitted to raping and killing his mother following an interrogation process.
Moswea will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
