“On August 19, 2023, my vehicle was stolen in the Sebenza police area, after I parked at the business center around 11:30.
“Thanks to Sgt Ramara and Sgt Ngomani both from Germiston Flying Squad for recovery of my 18 hours old Toyota Hilux bakkie,” wrote a resident who called himself Mr Conrade.
He said on Friday 18th August 2023 he bought the Toyota Hilux bakkie. At around 15:00 on the same day, it was delivered to his home.
“We were happy to have a new vehicle. Then the next morning we went to do some day-to-day business in the Sebenza police area.”
Upon returning from shopping, he discovered that the vehicle was nowhere to be found and other vehicles parked in that area.
He reported the matter to the police, but as the vehicle had no tracking device, he didn’t believe he would see it again.
“At around 16:45 on the 19th of August, I received a call from a friend who worked at a known tracking company informing me that my vehicle was recovered by Sgt Ramara in Katlehong.
“After I was given his cell phone number, I called him to confirm. Then he told me that he and Sgt. Ngomani were standing off with my vehicle. But I wasn’t buying it.
“I then called the Sebenza police station, who told me that it was a scam and that I must not go there with the key. And the insurance company too warned me against going, saying it was a scam. They said ‘you can’t find that kind of vehicle nowadays without a tracker'”.
He stated that the information by all the people made him feel confused by.
According to him, Riaan from Cartrak gave him a little story about Sgt Ramara that made him trust the information.
“He told me that he knows Ramara very well. He confirmed with the Sgt that they were positioned with the vehicle and sent pictures to the WhatsApp group.
“I then proceeded to Sergeant Ramara’s location in the Katlehong Credi section, Chaka Street.
“On arrival at around 19:30, we found a police vehicle with blue lights. Then my heart began to pump out of joy. After that, Sgt Ramara showed us the vehicle.
“I made a call to my friends and family to let them know that I was standing with my vehicle and the police.”
He stated that his friends informed him that he was fortunate since more than 50 bakkies were stolen on August 19th. He said that the ones with tracking devices were not recovered. It was only his bakkie without a tracker that was recovered by Sgt. Ramara and his crew.
“I just want to say thank you again Ramara and Sgt Ngomani, both for your dedication and hard work. Now I still believe we have Legends on our streets looking after us,” said Conrade.
Ramara said positive message encourage him to do more.
