Two suspects, aged between 35 and 53 years, were arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 for corruption.

Police said a home affairs official was colluding with a farm owner around Nelspruit to protect 11 illegal Malawian immigrants from deportation to their country.

According to Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, an intelligence driven operation was conducted and the suspects were arrested immediately after the money had exchanged hands.

“The two suspects were charged and detained pending their first court appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate court on Thursday, 17 March 2022,” Sekgotodi said.
