Tiisetso John Meso (13) has already won a silver medal in his first tournament. Again, his second karate tournament resulted in him winning a gold medal and a trophy.
The Grade 8 learner at Realogile High school in Alexandra started martial arts this January.
Dikeledi Priscilla Meso, his proud mother, who is also a karateka, stressed that parents should always support their children.
“If us parents don’t support them, they will end up doing drugs and all sorts of wrong things,” she said.
John does his martial arts training at Suninghill Quan Wessel. His coach, sensei Morgan Naidoo, had confidence that John would make it to the tournament.
His little sister, Kgaugelo (10), a grade 4 learner at Skeen primary school, has also won a silver medal the same day his brother won his.
“We are so proud of them for their achievements. We pray to see them go far with this sport.
“I want to express my gratitude to Afrika Tikkun for everything, particularly Mr. Thomas, who is also known as Mr. T.
“I don’t think my children would be doing this if it wasn’t for Afrika Tikkun. They give our children so many opportunities in life, and it is up to us, as parents, to give the facilitators and the children the support they need,” concluded Dikeledi.
